Emojis in SERPs: The New Wave of Meta Descriptions?

Everyone loves emojis for the most part. They’re fun, they’re playful, and they drive a certain emotion which cannot be conveyed with the standard written word. However, should your business be using them to draw in further customers and sales? We’ll be discussing the pros and cons of doing so and how it can potentially lead to great success or great failure depending on how you go about utilizing them to your advantage.

Advantages of Using Emojis

There are numerous advantages of using emojis, especially in certain niches. Even in the most “stiff” of niches, an emoji here and there can make your brand seem playful and fun in an otherwise boring industry. As the older generations begin to fade out more and more with their purchasing power, you’ll have to begin to adapt to the younger generations and how they perceive brands. An artful usage of emoji(s) can do just that. If you wanted to attract a certain customer base to a product you offered in the cosmetic/makeup niche, there are several useful emojis, 💅💄💁, which can be displayed throughout your content which will certainly provide a more engaging and eye-catching experience than just plain-text. This can then further drive user acquisition, sales, and provide you with lifetime customers from which you’ll be able to up-sell over the years. Who knew an emoji could be so powerful? 😉

Disadvantages of Using Emojis

Most things in life require a balance of sorts; the same could be said with emojis. There are certain ways some may go about using their emojis which could possibly come across as “try-hard” where they’re attempting to blatantly appeal to the youth. This is similar to the meme above with Steve Buscemi where he is overcompensating with his intentions to appeal to the “hip, cool kids”. Bottom line, don’t be “that guy” if you want to see your emojis being perceived in a positive light. Be sure to use your emojis in a balanced way and if needed, bring on some younger minds to further connect with the demographics you’re targeting.

The Essence of Emojis

Emojis will most likely continue to be a major part of our communication culture; especially with everything from “ani-mojis” to GIFs to the general adaptive and evolving nature of human communication. It’s truly an interesting time to be alive and we’re looking forward to seeing where the world of emojis can help with SEO efforts. All in all, you should try emojis out on some of your pages and SERPs and see how it works out. We’re certain it will intrigue visitors at the least and potentially convert them into lifetime customers at the best.
